Trish
Bergin was recently named weekend co-anchor of Inside Edition.
On weekdays, Trish will serve as substitute anchor for Deborah Norville
(A Long Islander) when Norville is away or on assignment.
Bergin is a
familiar face to television viewers in the New York area, having
most recently co-anchored News 12 Long Island's morning newscast.
Previously, she anchored the station's weekend newscasts, extensively
reporting on issues affecting Long Island, filing live crime and
consumer reports and conducting numerous on-set human interviews.
Bergin, along with ABC News' John Miller, was the first broadcaster
on the scene of the TWA flight 800 crash.
When asked about
her moving from local to national television, she said, "Moving
from local Long Island news to a nationally syndicated news show,
preparing to celebrate its 15th season, is exciting and takes my
career to the next level. Its a personal breakthrough that I can
compare to an employee who has always aspired to be part of management.
In this transition, as I have always done on television, I will
continue to imagine myself talking to a select group of close friends.
It's too intimidating to think about the number of people who are
at home watching the series."
This past June,
Trish (31) married environmental lawyer Randy. They
are expecting their first child in November. LIWomen.com asked Trish
about balancing family and business life. "People who work
in television are at work either BEFORE or AFTER business hours.
So when one might customarily enjoy family time, watching the morning
or evening news, we are at work. Even major holidays, such as Christmas
and Thanksgiving, have been spent away from home and with colleagues
in the newsroom. I am grateful though, that my family has been so
understanding and supportive for the past 13 years. I remember that
my family came to the television station one Thanksgiving. On my
dinner break, we went to a restaurant across the street. It becomes
trying at times, but we try to view it as an adventure rather than
a hindrance. In my off hours, I dedicate my time solely to my family,
and I don't spend much time socializing with acquaintances. My new
husband and family come first."
Trish spent
two years as a reporter for WCBS-TV in New York City and was a reporter
for WLIG-TV 55. Her television career began at Long Island News
Tonight, where she served as the local issue reporter and assistant
director. She is a communication arts graduate of the New York Institute
of Technology.
